KPU Statement Reaps Big Question Marks, Who Is Potential to Be Humiliated?
Pojok Nasional. A grid of debate questions to candidates is given before the debate is held on the grounds that there are no candidates who are humiliated. This was said by the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Arief Budiman.
If questions are given spontaneously during the debate, there is a possibility that the candidate will be 'attacked' with irrelevant questions.
"We don't want any candidate who is termed humiliated or attacked because problems or questions that are very, very technical, not substantive," Arief said at the KPU office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday (1/7/2019).
Arief said, the KPU as the election organizer wanted all parties to maintain the dignity of the presidential and vice-presidential pairs. Experience the election debate, often candidates are given very technical and unimportant questions. With the aim only to drop the candidate pair. In fact, the main purpose of the debate is to campaign for the vision and mission and the presidential and vice presidential program.
"The main objective of the campaign is to convey the program's vision and mission to the community so that the public knows and uses that reference as a way for him to make his choice," Arief said.
According to Arief, the plan to give a grid to candidates before the debate is not a mere KPU decision, but the KPU has agreed with the campaign teams of candidates for president and vice president number 01 and 02.
However, from all the questions compiled, there are only a few questions that will be raised in the debate. The debate participants themselves will not be notified of the questions that will really appear. Besides the open model, there are also closed question patterns. In this model, each candidate pair asks a question to another candidate.
By reason of not wanting anyone to be humiliated and attacked, making a big question mark to the KPU Chairperson, who could potentially be humiliated and attacked? Or is that just the reason the KPU is protecting and siding with one of the candidate pairs?
According to the Executive Director of Perludem, Titi Anggraini, the debate is not only to socialize the presidential candidate's mission, mission and program, but also test the originality of the response and views of the presidential candidate pair on factual conditions, views of candidate pairs on the scope of the debate restricted.
By giving a grid of questions it will lose the original aspects of each candidate pair.
